Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 28, 2026
Chickpea ("the app," "we," "us") is a mobile app that lets parents and guardians record and caption their children's voice memories. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it's used, and how you can control or delete it.
Chickpea is designed to be used by an adult parent or guardian, not directly by a child. Any audio, photos, or names you add to the app are provided voluntarily by you, about your own child, under your control.
Information we collect
Voice recordings. When you record a memory, the audio file is saved on your device. If you subscribe to Chickpea Pro and link a Google account, that audio file is also uploaded to our cloud storage (provided by Google Firebase) so it isn't lost if you lose or replace your device.
Captions and kid profiles. Captions and kid names you enter stay on your device only. They are not uploaded to the cloud, even for Pro subscribers — only the audio file itself is backed up.
Profile photos. Photos you add for a kid's profile are stored on your device and, if cloud sync is enabled, uploaded to your private cloud backup. They are never publicly accessible.
Google account information. If you choose to link a Google account (only required for Chickpea Pro's cloud backup), we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google, used solely to identify your account and associate your backups with you. We do not post on your behalf or access any other Google data.
Subscription information. If you purchase Chickpea Pro, payment is handled entirely by Google Play (or Apple, if applicable) and our subscription management provider. We do not see or store your payment card details.
What we don't collect
Chickpea does not include advertising, analytics, or third-party tracking software of any kind. We don't sell or share your data with advertisers or data brokers, ever.
How your data is stored and secured
Cloud backups are stored using Google Firebase. Each account's files are isolated so that only that account can access them — files are not publicly accessible. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Firebase's standard infrastructure.
Your controls
- Export your data — you can export all recordings as audio files at any time from the Account screen. We strongly recommend doing this regularly as your own backup.
- Deleting a recording or kid profile in the app permanently deletes it from your device and, if it was backed up, from cloud storage too.
- Turning off sync stops new recordings from being backed up; previously synced files remain in your account until deleted.
- Logging out of your Google account stops local access to your backup but does not delete your cloud data — signing back in with the same Google account restores access.
- Deleting your account and all data — use the "Delete account and all data" option in Account settings, or contact us at support@chickpea.app and we will delete your cloud-stored data within 30 days.
Children's privacy
Chickpea is not directed at children and is not designed for children to use directly. It is a tool for parents and guardians to privately record and caption their own child's voice memories. We do not knowingly collect information directly from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
